Winston-Salem is home to the UNC School of the Arts, founded in 1963 as the country’s first public arts conservatory. The Winston-Salem Symphony Youth Orchestras have four orchestras for students in first through twelfth grade, starting with Premiere Strings for young string players who are new to playing with a conductor. The Symphony also introduces every fourth and fifth grader in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools to the orchestra.
