Name that chord
A chord is a group of notes sounded together, and the quality of that group is what gives it its character. In this quick game a chord appears stacked on the clef of your choice, and you name the chord quality. Start with three-note triads and work up to four-note seventh chords.

Why chords matter
A chord is three or more notes stacked together, and the quality of that stack is what makes a piece sound bright, dark, tense, or warm. A player who can recognize chord qualities on the page understands the harmony underneath a melody, which makes sight reading faster and ensemble playing more musical.
The four basic triad qualities are major, minor, diminished, and augmented. Each one is built from two intervals measured from the root: the third and the fifth. Seventh chords add a fourth note, the seventh above the root, and bring richer colors to the harmony. This game asks you to name the quality from the picture, starting with the friendly triads and working up to the five seventh-chord types. Hard and Expert also show chords inverted, with the third, the fifth, or the seventh on the bottom instead of the root. An inverted chord keeps its quality, so its name stays the same.
How this game helps
Short, playful rounds build the same quick recognition a fluent reader relies on. The streak scoring rewards a run of correct answers, and the gentle feedback names the chord quality whenever you miss one, so every question teaches something. It makes a joyful warm up before a Suzuki violin lesson or a home practice session.
