Play and learn
What does it mean?
The Italian words and symbols scattered through a piece of music tell a performer how fast to play, how loud to be, and what character to bring to each phrase. In this quick game a musical marking appears and you pick what it means. Play a round, build a streak, and learn the vocabulary of the score.

Why musical markings matter
A piece of music is more than its notes and rhythms. The tempo markings tell a player how fast or slow the music flows, the dynamics tell them how loud or soft to play, and the expression markings shape the character of every phrase. A young musician who knows these words can pick up a new piece and play it the way the composer intended, not just the right notes but in the right spirit.
Most of these markings are Italian words that have been part of music for centuries. Learning them is like learning a small, friendly language: once you know that allegro means fast and piano means soft, you carry that knowledge into every piece you read. This game covers tempo, dynamics, expression, and string-playing markings, and the directions that tell you where to go next in a score, across three levels, starting with the words you meet most often.
How this game helps
Short, playful rounds build the same quick recognition a confident reader relies on. The streak scoring rewards a run of correct answers, and the gentle feedback explains the marking whenever you miss one, so every question teaches something. It makes a joyful warm up before a Suzuki violin lesson or a home practice session.
Ready for real lessons?
When your young musician is ready to bring these markings to life on a real violin, we would love to help them begin.
